Forbes House Museum Volunteer Opportunity

Do you enjoy history?

Are you interested in art or architecture?

Do you want to give back to the community?

The Forbes House Museum is looking for bright, energetic and engaging adults and students to become Summer Tour Guides of this grand Greek Revival style mansion and its surrounding property.

The Museum encompasses the history of four generations of the Forbes family and their house staff. There are objects from the early days of America’s trade with China and relics from the daily lives of Irish domestic workers in the 1800’s and early 1900’s. There are artifacts from Captain Forbes’ relief mission to Ireland during the Great Famine, and rooms representative of this well-to-do Milton family’s life during the Victorian era. And, there is one room dedicated to Mary Bowditch Forbes’ collection of Lincoln and Civil War memorabilia.

As a Museum Tour Guide, your job would be to learn about the diverse collection and interpret it for visitors of all ages. We would particularly love to have high school students and graduates leading family tours and engaging younger visitors in hands-on art projects. For those interested in continuing beyond the summer months, there is a year-round need for tour guides.

Flexible, including weekdays or weekends between the hours of 10 am and 4 pm. The schedule of a Tour Guide can easily be worked around other jobs and activities.
