SECOND ANNUAL MILTON GARDEN TOUR
Saturday, May 30, 2026 10:00AM – 3:00PM

In partnership with the Milton Garden Club and the Milton Chamber of Commerce.

Enjoy access to seven of Milton’s beautiful private gardens. All have been lovingly curated by the homeowners in varying styles and highlight a plethora of gorgeous flora! There will also be plein air artists and a floral arrangement demonstration. Maps to the gardens will be provided at check-in at the Forbes House Museum on the day of the tour.

Tickets: $25 if purchased prior to event; $30 on site

FOLK MUSIC OF THE AMERICAN CIVIL WAR
Saturday, June 13, 2026 7:00PM – 8:30PM

Audiences not only experience the historical music, but will also participate! 

Marek Bennett’s repertoire includes parlor songs, rally cries, spirituals and parodies. His lively performances take inspiration from various folk traditions, engaging audiences in immersive explorations of history as a sung, spoken, and lived experience. In his concert featuring mid-19th century American folk music, artwork and texts, Marek will encourage audience participation with singing, sampling basic folk instruments and reading selected historic excerpts. Join us for an entertaining evening of rousing singalongs and dramatic readings!

Tickets: General admission $25; FHM member $20

CREATING COMICS FROM LOCAL HISTORY!
Sunday, June 14, 2026 1:00PM – 2:30PM

Creative animation of historic events and characters. 

Cartoonist Marek Bennett will demonstrate how he creates his long-running graphic novel series, The Civil War Diary of Freeman Colby, based on primary source texts and artwork. You’ll then get a chance to create your own mini-comics and graphic novels based on historical comics, stories, and texts from the Forbes House Museum collections, or your own chosen themes. No experience necessary – everyone can create comics! For students in grades 5-8

Student Ticket: $15, all materials included.

Family ticket (one student/one accompanying adult): $25. Adults can join the fun!

READING FREDERICK DOUGLASS TOGETHER
Thursday, June 25, 2026 6:00PM – 7:30PM

A special evening of music, theater, and a community reading of Frederick Douglass’s speech, “What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?”

Co-hosted with Courageous Conversations Towards Racial Justice, this outdoor tented event will begin with live classical music and light refreshments, followed by a short excerpt from the play, “This Is Not a Bill,” by Boston playwright Alexia Rowe. The play tells the story of an enslaved couple escaping from the South along the Underground Railroad during the threat of the Fugitive Slave Act.

The community reading will begin at 7:00 pm with volunteers taking turns reading individual paragraphs from Douglass’s speech. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate. Sign up by clicking the button below.
